Visit the Locations from Your Favourite TV Shows with Culture Trip
TV location tours are as popular as ever, with avid bingers the world over making sightseeing pilgrimages in honour of their favourite shows. Here are just some of the iconic TV filming locations you can visit on one of our Culture Trips.
The White Lotus, Sicily
If there’s one TV show that’s bound to leave viewers itching to go setjetting, it’s The White Lotus. After the rave success of the Hawaii-set season one, the series returned in 2022, this time turning its satirical eye towards a luxurious hotel in Taormina, Sicily. While the show isn’t exactly forgiving of its vastly wealthy holidaymaker protagonists, that doesn’t stop you from drooling at the stunning beaches, boat trips and breakfast views across Italy’s largest island. Our eight-day Sicily trip is a pretty extensive tour of the island, which includes time spent in Taormina, as well as Cefalu and Palermo, where parts of the series were also filmed. Indulge in gelato and limoncello, discover old markets and explore the island by boat, just try not to be as obnoxious as the guests on the show.

Game of Thrones – Dubrovnik
It’s ultimate setjetting TV series. Game of Thrones is as responsible as any other film or television show in the boom of location travel. Northern Ireland has had its tourism industry transformed, as has Iceland, but nowhere has won over the watchers more than Dubrovnik. King’s Landing, one of the most important settings in the whole series, looks pretty much identical to the Croatian city. From the towering city walls to the iconic red terracotta tiles that give its skyline a pop of colour, there is now something transportive about the narrow streets and old medieval buildings of this beautiful city. Our eight day tour along the country’s Dalmatian Coast ends with a comprehensive tour of Dubrovnik, but also starts in Split, which itself is home to several GoT filming locations, including Diocletian’s Palace.

Squid Game – South Korea
It was the TV show of 2021. Squid Game’s cultural impact was phenomenal, so much so that it quickly became one of the most successful TV shows of all time, overcoming the tiny hurdle of subtitles to become a huge hit worldwide. It’s also the culmination of several years of growth for the Korean drama genre, which has grown increasingly popular overseas. While much of Squid Game is set inside a sterile, creepy TV set, the characters are all from Seoul, and the scenes depicting their lives before the game were all shot on location in the city. That means that a guided tour of the Korean capital, like the one you’ll have at the start of our 10-day trip in South Korea, will be full of familiar locations.

Money Heist – Madrid
Another huge Netflix hit, and another series not in the English language, is Money Heist – or La Casa de Papel, to give it its proper title. The first four seasons are set around two major heists, the first two focusing on the Royal Mint of Spain and the latter two on the Bank of Spain. The majority of the show is filmed in the Spanish capital, so locations like the Spanish National Research Council, Nuevos Ministerios and Callao Square will all be very familiar to fans of the show. There are also some sequences shot in Thailand and Florence, both of which you can visit with Culture Trip, but lovers of Money Heist should look no further than our Madrid to Marrakech Rail Trip, which starts with a comprehensive tour of the capital’s most iconic sights, before escaping by train to Cordoba and Seville, and getting across the border to visit Tangiers, Fes, Casablanca and Marrakech in Morocco – sounds like a route worthy of a master heist plan, no?

Moon Knight – Egypt
Of all the MCU shows to drop on Disney+ in recent years, Moon Knight has left the biggest impression in terms of its choice of location. The entire plot revolves around classic Egyptian mythology, history and even a bit of geography. Admittedly most of the show’s interiors are shot in Budapest – a favourite shooting location for Marvel generally, which you can also visit with Culture Trip – and even the desert sequences are filmed in Jordan, also a favourite playground for the industry. However, the heart of the show revolves around the magic of ancient Egypt, and the plot revolves massively around Cairo and the Great Pyramids of Giza, both of which you’ll visit at the start of our Ultimate Egypt trip. Having explored the iconic sights that Oscar Isaac and various otherworldly beings traverse in the north of Egypt, we’ll head south on a luxury Nile river cruise, stopping off at various ancient sites, including Luxor Temple, also known as the Temple of Khonsu – Khonsu being the mysterious Moon god with a connection to Isaac’s Steven.
